Photo by @amivitale | Reticulated giraffe can run as fast as 35 miles per hour over short distances or 10 miles per hour over longer distances. Here they are shown in northern Kenya's Leparua Community Conservancy as a group from the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Kenya Wildlife Service, San Diego Zoo Global, and the Northern Rangelands Trust put GPS tags on11 giraffe to better understand their migration patterns. Across Africa, giraffe are undergoing what is being termed a silent extinction. The population decline is thought to be caused by habitat loss and fragmentation and poaching, but with the lack of long-term conservation efforts in the past, it's hard to know exactly. Scientists are undertaking major studies to understand why giraffe are disappearing and what can be done to stop it. Learn more, including how to get involved, by following @giraffe_conservation, @sdzsafaripark and @amivitale. #giraffe #savegiraffe #kenya

photo_library Photo by @jimrichardsonng | Inside Fingal’s Cave on Staffa Island in Scotland, the Basalt columns echo the sea that has battered and eroded its way into the island. But these columns survived better than the dinosaurs who went extinct about the same time this vast lava flow of the Paleocene was reshaping what would become Scotland and Ireland. Small wonder Jules Verne referred to this place in his novel

Photo by @andy_mann // sponsored by @parkhyatt // The Registan, a square dating back to the early 1400s, was the heart of the ancient city of Samarkand, now part of Uzbekistan. People gathered in the square to hear royal proclamations, trade goods traveling along the Silk Road, and witness public executions. What we see today is the tireless work of hundreds of people who have restored this unique and historic monument over many decades. Thousands of visitors flow through the square each day, admiring the afternoon glow that bathes the turquoise domes and stone pillars. // For discerning @parkhyatt guests, luxury is not easily defined but often reflected in their most personal travel mementos. #ParkHyatt #LuxuryIsPersonal

Photo by Aaron Huey @argonautphoto | People say we have no great aged Cathedrals in the US, but I disagree—this is an American Cathedral. In this image, Wakinyan Two Bulls places prayer ties in a tree near the sacred place called Mato Tipila asking for healing and protection for his family. The Wyoming landmark is often called Devils Tower by non-Natives. Traditionally the Lakota (and many other tribes) fasted, prayed, left offerings, held sweat lodge and sun dance ceremonies, and did their vision quests around this great geological formation. To see more images of American Cathedrals and the Lakota, follow me @argonautphoto.

Photo by @daisygilardini | Baobab trees are found in arid regions in Africa, India, and Australia. There are nine different species of this genus (Adansonia). They all have huge trunks that can store up to 120,000 liters of water (32,000 gallons) and can live for thousands of years. Maybe this is why, when close to them, one can feel a kind of wise energy. During my last adventure in Botswana, we had a great opportunity to photograph this beautiful baobab under the Milky Way. I used an exposure of 25 seconds at f4, with the ISO camera setting at 2500. Most of the islets of Ha Long are uninhabited. Geologists note its unusual and mature Karst landscape, which is often found on land. Photo by Beth Wald @bethjwald | Outside a small chapel in pre-dawn light, a young man readies a team of horses to take part in a religious pilgrimage through the rural landscape of Iberá, in the Corrientes Province of northeastern Argentina. People from small villages across the region travel for up to five days on horseback or horsecart, carrying religious icons to the cathedral in the town of Itatí to celebrate the Virgin of Itatí. The last days of the pilgrimage are an incredible spectacle as tens of thousands of people on horseback, most in traditional finery, take over the roadways of Corrientes and converge on the town. Photo by @andrea_frazzetta | A panoramic view of Florence. In the middle of the city stands the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The dome covering the cathedral is known as Brunelleschi’s dome in honor of its creator, the architect Filippo Brunelleschi. When it was designed, it was the largest dome in the world. the dome is still a masterpiece of beauty, engineering, and pioneering construction. In many ways, it remains unmatched. Florence holds the distinction of being the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. For around 250 years, before 1300 and until the early 1500s, it was politically, economically ,and culturally the most important city in Europe. Photo by @michaelclarkphoto | Savannah Cummins climbing the super classic route Scarface (5.11) on the Scarface Wall in Indian Creek, Utah. For this image, we had another climber up on the wall with a big, battery-powered strobe (i.e. a big flash) to light up the climber at sunset. This route has been photographed tens of thousands of times, but something different can always be done to show it in a new light—quite literally here. #indiancreek #scarface #utah
