Photo by @Sofia_Jaramillo5 | The Buffalo Fork River flows in a valley near the Teton Range in Moran, Wyoming. The earliest evidence of humans in this area dates back at least 11,000 years. People first traveled into the valley near Grand Teton National Park as glaciers receded. By the time Europeans arrived, tribes such as the Shoshone, Bannock, Blackfoot, Crow, Flathead, Gros Ventre, Nez Perce, and others were harvesting and hunting in the area. photo_library Photo by @michaelclarkphoto | The city of Svolvær, shown here, in the Lofoten Islands is packed between steep mountains jutting right out of the ocean and the Norwegian Sea on the northern coast of Norway. The red painted buildings are everywhere in the Lofoten. Red paint is the easiest color to produce and was historically created using red ochre and cod liver oil. #lofotenislands #lofoten #norway #Svolvær

Photo by @mborowick | The rainbow facade of the Choi Hung Estate in Hong Kong is a marvel for most. Choi Hung literally means “rainbow” in Cantonese. It is one of the oldest housing estates in Hong Kong and is home to more than 18,000 people. Looking beyond the colorful exterior, the extreme density of this building and the many like it, just goes to show the living conditions that the many millions in Hong Kong are living in. #choihung #hongkong #rainbow #china #asia

Photo by @max.lowe I The sun sets over the fjordlands and peaks of southwest Norway while looking down on the city of Alesund as the city lights spark on and the long winter night begins. Alesund was our home base for a ski trip throughout the area, but as much as the mountains sparked my imagination, it was the landscapes of the Norwegian coast that stuck with me over the years. To see more from my travels follow @max.lowe.

Photo by @BabakTafreshi | Every other year I visit the Atacama Desert of Chile for various astrophotography projects. The area has some of the clearest skies for both hobby stargazers and research astronomers. This is a traditional accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama, a town with minimal light pollution. The Milky Way was emerging just as the night began. Explore more of The World at Night photography with me @babaktafreshi. #saveournightsky #stargazing #astrotourism #atacama #twanight

Photo @stephen_matera | Aerial photo over Spire Point in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, North Cascades, Washington. The North Cascades are a rugged wilderness of thick old growth forests, rock, and ice with over 300 active glaciers. There are very few roads that penetrate the North Cascades, but one of the few that does is the North Cascades Highway, which is closed in winter because of the deep snowfall and avalanche hazard along the highway. Most of the hiking and climbing in this beautiful wilderness requires long approaches with thousands of feet of elevation gain. Photo by @andrea_frazzetta | The stunning interior of Palermo’s Casa Professa – or Church of the Gesù. The building is one of the most important masterpieces of Baroque art in Sicily, Italy. It is enhanced by incredible decorations in marble and stucco, which according to American art historian Donald Garstang, “belong to the world of unleashed fancy.” The tireless work, spanning over 200 years by some of the most accomplished artists in the world, is on display everywhere you look in sculptures, polychrome inlays, stucco art, frescoes, and ornate marble construction.
